YOU DID IT! – Money and Politics

Congratulations and Thank You to all who e-mailed and went to Committee Meetings!
The Obama Care bill, SB693 has been killed in Committee! Special thanks to House Health Care Committee Chairwoman Rep Gail Haines for giving as “ordinary citizens” an extended opportunity to make our voices heard! And to House Majority Leader Rep Jase Bolger

“The GOP-run state House of Representatives is holding up legislation pushed by Gov. Rick Snyder to create a Michigan health insurance exchange, which threatens to leave the state with a federal marketplace where consumers shop for health coverage.

Many House Republicans are rejecting the wishes of their fellow GOP governor, arguing that they don’t want to prematurely install federal health requirements they consider faulty and unconstitutional.

This past week, the state House Health Policy Committee heard testimony from the public on creating an exchange, one of about 10 weeks of testimony so far on the issue, said Rep. Gail Haines, R-Waterford Township, the committee chairwoman.

Haines said the committee is taking a deliberative approach, but if the Supreme Court finds health reform constitutional, the House will be ready to act. “Rest assured, we are not going to have this run by the federal government,” she said.
State House Speaker Jase Bolger, R-Marshall, said Friday that the House wants to wait until after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on President Barack Obama’s federal health reforms to decide its next steps on the exchange.”...to Read More

Money and Politics

Money
Get away
You get a good job with good pay and you’re okay
Money
It’s a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I’ll buy me a football team

From the song “Money” by Pink Floyd

It’s no secret there is money in politics, it takes money to run for office

However looking at campaign contributions can be enlightening, especially when you compare those contributions to votes

For instance, I took a look at the campaign contributions of  Senator Jim Marleau who introduced the MI Health Care Exchange (Obama Care) bill (killed in Committee)

I looked up a couple of these contributors and their agendas and found…

Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards – (517) 374-6848
CMH PAC

Peace of Mind Registry

Another Marleau bill—->(SB 723) Creates the Peace of Mind Registry for advance directive for health care. Status: Senate Floor MHA POSITION: SUPPORT
This Bill SB 723 moves organ donor program solely from Secretary of State (SOS) to the Department of Community Health (DCH) with creation of a new electronic data gathering program. This bill is another step towards enabling of ObamaCare via the electronic data access and transmission of medical “directives” in the proposed MI Health Care Exchange

Health Insurance

A bill to provide that no person be required to obtain or maintain health insurance coverage.(Obama Care) —->(HB 4050) Would prohibit mandate to obtain individual health insurance coverage. Status: House Health Policy MHA POSITION: OPPOSE

We support candidates who understand roadway and driver safety, financial responsibility, consumer education, and the need for a healthy insurance marketplace in Michigan.

And Health Care Unions MICHIGAN NURSES ASSOCIATION $500.00

Added up “Health” ranked 3rd for all total contributions

Oh and toss in $1,000 from the “Turnaround PAC”(under “Ideology/Single Issue”) the Turnaround PAC is from the “Michigan Turnaround Plan” organization of Democrat and moderate Republicans who endorsed Rick Snyder for Governor and also endorse the NITC/DRIC bridge and “revenue neutral” economics which is just another name for robbing Peter to pay Paul as opposed to actually limiting government and therefore limiting the revenue or taxes needed to run it.

Another curiosity is that although Sen. Marleau introduced the bill SB 693, he never mentioned his “accomplishment” to his constituents in his year-end review Newsletter send on their dime. Link Here

And of course you can’t leave out the fact that the Governor who is from your Party wanted and still wants the Health Care Exchange and said so in his recent State of the State address

“In addition, Snyder renewed his call for legislative approval of the MiHealth Marketplace program,…”

But never fear Senator Marleau even though the next MI Senate elections are not until 2014 we won’t forget your votes, or your campaign contributions and who knows even though you were re-districted favorably someone might just decide to move. Can you say Primary?!

And if you do not wait to 2014 to speak with Senator Marleau in person, you can mosey on over to the Greater Oakland Republican Club (GOGOP) meeting regarding SB 693 held on February 7, 2012 at 7pm at the Orion-Oxford Eagles Club, 317 West Clarkston Rd, Lake Orion, MI. MAP HERE The agenda calls for three speakers Bill Bullard, Sen. Marleau, and one yet to be named speaker

2012 What’s Ahead & the Year in Review

2012

Our 2012 goals have not changed. The number one goal has always been to LIMIT the size and scope of government. The second goal is accountability and transparency from our elected officials. We WILL keep track of votes that are not in line with our Founders vision of LIMITED government and we WILL demand accountability and transparency from our elected officials.

2012

What didn’t get done in 2011

* January 18 Gov. Snyder delivers the State Of the State Address
* January 19 Public Meeting on ObamaCare (Information Below)
* January 23 While thousands gather in Washington D.C. for the National March for Life, local Pro-life advocates will rally at the State Capital Building at 4:30pm on Monday, January 23. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan’s issued a proclamation creating a national Sanctity of Human Life Day.
* Right To Work Indiana bill that would ban union contracts in the private sector that force employees to pay union dues or fees. Success for the bill in Indiana could help supporters gain momentum in states such as Maine, Michigan and Missouri, the story says. Gov. Rick Snyder has said he would sign a right-to-work bill if it landed on his desk, but it’s not on his priority list.
* Senator Jones Strikes Again Calls female PR executive a “hooker”
* More on NITC/DRIC
* Gov. Snyder Transportation Plan

Year in Review

The Good

* What Got Done
*Exceptions* NEW Tax on pensions and Emergency Manager power to upend elected officials, jury is still out on that.

The Bad

* NITC/DRIC Bridge A view from across the other side of the bridge,“No dear reader, it is all shameless propaganda designed to fool Americans.”
* MI Health Care Exchange
* Senate Bill 723 Called the “Peace of Mind” Registry… don’t ya just love these names! Oh and look who introduced the Bill…yup the same Senator who introduced the MI Health Care Exchange (ObamaCare) Senator Jim Marleau. The Bill moves organ donor program solely from Secretary of State (SOS) to the Department of Community Health (DCH) with creation of a new electronic data gathering program. This bill is another step towards enabling of ObamaCare via the electronic data access and transmission of medical “directives” in the proposed MI Health Care Exchange
* National Popular Vote – Political scheme to try an end run around Electoral College. Originally a Democrat plan cooked up after Al Gore lost to President Bush
* Republican-led Legislature Votes Overwhelmingly to Continue ‘Big Hollywood’ Film Subsidy
* Lt. Governor Brian Calley, ominous announcement that if lawmakers failed to provide the votes, there were “other ways” to build the bridge without a legislative vote.
Really? “No Taxation Bridge without Representation!

And the Ugly

* Senate Bill 8 – Introduced by Sen. Mark Jansen (R) on January 19, 2011, to allow and specify procedures for two or more local governments in Kent County to enter partnerships to provide particular government services, and give these the power to levy up to 5 mills of property tax. The decision to enter such a partnership would not be subject to referendum and an elected official could not be recalled for it.
* The MI Health Care Exchange is both bad and ugly
* Senator Rick Jones Behavior coupled with his votes and his stances, “Sen. Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge, is one of the GOP senators supporting the new bridge.

*SIDEBAR*

Although the $9.8 million added by the Senate to create a state “ObamaCare exchange” was stripped from Appropriations (HB 5014) in the House, which was definitely good the “$119 million in mostly federal money for incentive payments to health care providers and facilities to adopt state-approved electronic health care record systems” (which can still be used towards the IT system for ObamaCare was left in. So the optimum vote on HB5014 was a “NO”

Is there something I left off this list you feel should have been included? We invite your comment here

Senate Race

“When you become entitled to exercise the right of voting for public officers, let it be impressed upon your mind that God commands you to choose for rulers,’just men who will rule in the fear of God.’ The preservation of government depends on the faithful discharge of this duty; if the citizens neglect their duty and place unprincipled men in office, the government will soon be corrupted; laws will be made, not for the public good so much as for selfish or local purposes; corrupt or incompetent men will be appointed to execute the laws; and the rights of the citizens will be violated or disregarded. If a republican government fails to secure public prosperity and happiness, it must be because the citizens neglect the divine commands, and elect bad men to make the administer the laws.” Noah Webster, 1832

Extremely important race here in Michigan. And to our country. It is not out of the realm of possibility that President Obama could be reelected That possibility makes Congressional races just that more important. Have you had an opportunity to educate yourself on the issues and principles of those seeking to replace Progressive Debbie Stabenow?

Senator Jones Strikes Again

Well it had to happen however what is so surprising is that it happened so soon after Senator Rick Jones comments to me. Yes I did receive an apology from Jones and accepted despite the fact it contained a lie..i.e Jones claims we “had an established history of communication” Never did. Unless you call receiving Grassroots in Michigan e-mail Newsletters like several other thousands across the state”established communication”

This time Jones compared Truscott Rossman founder Kelly Rossman-McKinney to a prostitute. No I am not kidding

In a MIRS story on Dec. 28, Rossman, head of a top Lansing public relations firm, named Jones and House Democrats as the biggest losers of the year, calling the senator “unavoidable for comment. He is all about the media release rather than the public policy.”

Jones then called and emailed MIRS with an unsolicited response to Rossman’s remarks:

“As an elected Senator I am honored to fight on behalf of my constituents for the best public policy.  Unfortunately Kelly, like a ‘hooker’, works for whichever client hires her — policy be damned. She always gets worked up when I oppose her clients. Business must be tough. I find it funny that she took on a Republican partner.”

Evidently when it comes to woman disagreeing with him Jones can not control himself.
And I have to wonder if “fight on behalf of my constituents for the best public policy” includes voting for ObamaCare (SB693) and the Appropriation bill to fund it(HB5014, Senate version)?

My comments about this latest “Jones incident” when contacted by Susan Demas of MIRS…

“There are several things that are obvious from yet another unfortunate incident involving Sen. Jones
Senator Jones apology to me was anything but sincere and only done for political expediency and that Senator Jones has a pattern of bullying woman.
If their are other victims unknown at this time, I would urge them to come forward
And unless Jones receives  *strict consequences for his actions, the list of woman who are the victims of his bullying will continue to grow
However I disagree with Ms. Kelly-Rossman-McKinney on one point, the real losers are Jones constituents

If you were to ask me what I thought the “strict consequences” should/would be….

*Immediately, removal from any Committee Chairmanship (Judicial). And in the future, a Primary opponent so the voters in his district will have an opportunity
to replace him with someone who will represent them in an honorable manner and with their best interests as a priority as opposed to mere political gain

Ms. Kelly Rossman-McKinney, like myself has send a letter to Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville about Jones’s conduct. THIS time consequences need to be more than an insincere apology as Jones behavior is a disgrace to the office of Senator and to his constituents.

If you agree and especially if you are one of Jones constituents (based on new redistricting) Please join me and e-mail/fax Senator Randy Richarville and tell him so.

MI News- Vote on HB 5014, Senator Apologizes

With only three voting session days remaining for 2011, news sources are reporting that a push to vote on HB 5014 is likely this week before legislators go on Christmas vacation! The reason for the push is that the state must apply for the Federal money soon, so it must be included in this round of supplementals. And insurance companies have an issue of timing for software needed for the Health Care exchange (mandated in Obama Care)
HB 5014 is an appropriations bill. And the Senate added $9.8 million from a federal grant to create a state “Obama Care exchange” to administer federal “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” subsidies. Also included is $119 million that is nearly all federal money for incentive payments to health care providers and facilities to adopt state-approved electronic health care record systems.
The bill also appropriates the money from a new 1 percent tax on health insurance claims designed to “game” the federal Medicaid system to get higher federal payments to Michigan’s medical welfare system, and additional amounts for related items.
This bill must be stopped!
The creation of the IT system is the foundation of Obama Care, the collection of personal medical data that can be electronically transferred “The 2009 stimulus and the Obama health law enacted last year established a national electronic health database that will hold and display your lifelong medical history — making it accessible to a troubling number of strangers, including government employees and a variety of health-care personnel.” How ObamaCare destroys your privacy By BETSY McCAUGHEY

What Can You Do?

Send one e-mail, to your House Rep (find your Rep HERE) and
Speaker of the House Jase Bolger Representative Bolger has been “holding down the fort” to remove the Obama Care appropriation in the bill. Please encourage and thank him.

Senator Rick Jones Apologizes

I have received a letter of apology from Senator Rick Jones. My thanks to those who e-mailed Senator Richardville on my behalf. My comments to the media are as followed:

Joan Fabiano of the tea party group Grassroots in Michigan has confirmed that she received a letter of apology from Senator Rick Jones stemming from comments Jones made to Fabiano in an e-mail where he asked, “I heard you were on head meds, is that true?”
Fabiano said “I am glad that Senator Jones has acknowledged responsibility and I accept and appreciate and his apology. I also appreciate and want to thank Senator Richardville for his involvement.”
Fabiano goes on to said, “However, I will continue to ask questions as I represent an organization that has members across the state and they expect transparency and accountability from their elected officials. And we have yet to hear publicly from Senator Jones on why he voted for SB 693, the implementation of Obama Care via the creation of a MI Health Care Exchange.”

Addtionally, Since the only communication I ever had with Senator Jones was through my Newsletters, sent to thousand across the state, I have decided to removed him from my Newsletter list.

*REMINDER*
Mark your Calendar!

The House Health Care Policy Committee will have a public meeting for taking testimony on the passage of SB 693, the creation of a Michigan Health Care Exchange mandated by “Obama Care”
You do not have to speak but a show of force sends the message that we do not want Obama care (creation of a Health Care Exchange) and your presence also helps to support those in the House who oppose it.

The Politics of Destruction

There was once a time in America when character, honesty and yes even chivalry were necessary prerequisites for leadership. Evidently, those days are long gone. As an example  I point to Senator Rick Jones comments after learning I had filed a Senate ethics complaint against him for cyber bullying

As quoted in several news sources: “I have genuine concern about her, and I don’t wish to comment on any private conversations we’ve had,” Jones said. and “Mr. Jones said, he “cares about Ms. Fabiano’s health.”

A perfect example of the politics of destruction. Senator Jones in a vain attempt to throw the spotlight of truth away from himself tries to cast doubt on my mental health, politics of destruction in action.  Although apparently in Jones world, there must be something wrong with anyone who doesn’t agree with him. Private conversations? Fabrication. Just another smoke and mirror tactic to try to manipulate people into thinking there was any private conversation between Jones and I, politics of destruction in action. and of course a “private” conversation is hard to prove or disproof isn’t it?. Just another tool in the arsenal of those who engage in the politics of personal destruction.

We just had an example of the politics of destruction in action with Herman Cain. Just throw out whatever you can and see what sicks. And no matter how false or outrageous the allegation is, some people will choose to believe it. That’s how it works, try to plant falsehoods in the minds of others to throw the focus off you and onto another.  And this is exactly why people do not get involved or come forward when they should. They are afraid. Afraid of false and scurrilous allegations that hold the  possibility of destroying  relationships and the object of the attack.  I  had received reports from others that said they had experienced similar behavior from Jones in the past. Unfortunately, because of fear of repercussions they choose not to get involved. and after reading Jone’s comment here who can blame them? However there are two comments left publicly on this site, that claim they had experienced similar behavior from Jones in the past, please judge them for yourself HERE And”genuine concern” Is there anyone who believes the sincerity of that?! This comment would be laughable if it wasn’t part of a campaign to deliberately discredit.

But let’s be clear, this isn’t about me or even if had some kind of medical problem which I do not, this is about the inappropriate, unprofessional and bullying behavior and actions of Senator Jones. He choose to send e-mails, I did not. Nonetheless, Jones continues to ignore the obvious evidence, an e-mail captured by a snapshot. Reality is be ignored by those desperately attempting damage control via the politics of personal destruction instead of admission. The whole thing could be resolved by Senator Jones admitting that his comment(s) were inappropriate and unprofessional for a Senator, apologize and accept the appropriate consequences for his behavior. But obviously that is not a choice Jones intends to make.

So now the choice is Senate Majority leader Randy Richardville, will he do the right thing and convene an investigation?

Feel free to ask him…

Its not Party but Principle

I knew that when I took this action that some would not agree and I respect their choice. However I received this reply to the newsletter I send out which is the same contents of this post.  contain of this post. This illustrates how disrespectful, inappropriate and vitriolic some are in the political arena and why good people decide to leave politics. What is more shocking is that Alex Clark was running for GOP Youth Chair! It also high lights the importance of stepping up and doing the right thing to expose and try to stop this sort of rhetoric especially when it originates from those who are in or aspire to leadership positions. A larger version may be found HERE

“There are no easy answers’ but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.”
Ronald Reagan

Regular readers here are aware of an e-mail I received from Senator Rick Jones. Those who missed that issue may access it HERE

This Monday, Dec. 5th I send a certified letter HERE to Senate Majority leader Randy Richardville filing a formal ethics complaint against Senator Jones for cyber bullying. This behavior is especially egregious since Senator Jones introduced an anti-cyber bullying bill HERE

I do not take this action lightly.
However, this is not a matter of Party but principle.

Regardless of Party, both Democrat and Republican elected to leadership positions have a high level of honorable responsibility to those who elected them and to the office.

This is a matter of people being able to disagree, even passionately with out fear of harassment or reprisal.

This is a matter of inappropriate conduct of an elected official and Michigan citizen’s right to expect that their Senators conduct themselves in a manner befitting their office.

This is a matter of adherence to rules.

CHAPTER I – SECTION 3 LEGISLATIVE CONDUCT AND ETHICS
1.301 LEGISLATIVE CONDUCT of the Michigan Legislative Handbook & Directory states:
Each Senator shall conduct himself or herself to justify the confidence placed in him or her by the people and shall, by personal example and admonition to colleagues, maintain the integrity and responsibility of his or her office.

This is a matter appropriate consequences for actions.
And finally this is a matter of preventing similar behavior in the future from Senator Rick Jones or any others.

If you agree, I respectfully ask you to join me in requesting that Senate Majority leader Randy Richardville enforce and honor The Senate’s rules and that Senator Rick Jones receive the appropriate consequences for his actions.

Public Committee Meeting on Obama Care!

January 19, 2012 9:00am

Two Important Action Items!

1. Public House Care Policy Committee on SB 693, the creation of a Michigan Health Care Exchange mandated by The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) known as “Obama Care”
2. House vote on H.B 5014: Appropriations- Referenced on Nov. 11th HERE
a. The Senate added $9.8 million from a federal grant to create a state “Obamacare exchange” to administer federal “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” subsidies. Also included is $119 million that is nearly all federal money for incentive payments to health care providers and facilities to adopt state-approved electronic health care record systems.
b. The bill also appropriates the money from a new 1 percent tax on health insurance claims designed to “game” the federal Medicaid system to get higher federal payments to Michigan’s medical welfare system, and additional amounts for related items.

1. The House Health Care Policy Committee will have a public meeting for taking testimony on the passage of SB 693, the creation of a Michigan Health Care Exchange mandated by “Obama Care” : Date: 1/19/2012 Time: 9:00 AM Place: 519 House Office Building, 124 N Capitol Ave Lansing, MI

I have spoken with the House Health Policy Committee Chair, Rep. Gail Haines,(43rd District) in order to obtain the schedule of the Public Meeting. And I want to clear up a misconception from a previous Newsletter in which I stated, “The House. House Health Care Policy Committee has already been holding testimonies preparing for a quick vote when the Bill came over from the Senate”

Chairwomen Haines has corrected that assumption, the Committee process will NOT be a process in preparation for a quick vote but a through and deliberate process that will give all citizens an opportunity for their voice to be heard. Chairwoman Haines strongly urges citizens to attend the public meeting. The consensus in the House currently is to wait until the Supreme Court rules however, Chairwomen Haines, the Committee and those who oppose SB 693 are under tremendous pressure from the Governor to rush the process. Chairwoman Haines needs to hear from YOU the citizen. We need to pack the Committee hearing room!

So mark your calendar! I know this is a work day but it such an important day to have your voice heard that I am going to suggest if feasible that citizens consider taking a 1/2 vacation day to attend this meeting

2. E-mail/Call/Fax your House Rep and tell him/her to vote NO on H.B 5014..NO to funding Obama Care!

To find and contact your House Representative click HERE to locate by zip code

IF YOU CAN NOT ATTEND the House Health Care Policy Public meeting
on January 19, 2012

* Supreme Court to hear Obama Care in 2012

A new poll shows that most voters want the Supreme Court to overturn President Obama’s health care law, with opposition and support falling largely along party lines. Overall, voters oppose the law by 48%-40%, according to the Quinnipiac University survey. Democrats support the Obama health care effort by 70%-19%, while Republicans oppose it by 86%-8%.The Quinnipiac survey found independent voters opposed to the law by 45%-38%.

For the Governor… Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Texas Gov. Rick Perry flat-out said “No!” In August Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback ordered that $32 million in PPACA exchange grants be returned, and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin returned $55 million in April. Florida’s Gov. Rick Scott, has rejected $2 million in federal grants. South Carolina Governor Haley said the federal plan is not the right fit for the state and has declined to accept millions of federal funds to set up a medical insurance exchange and will also let key deadlines pass.

Democrat governor refused the money!
And On Sept, 27, 2011 the AP reported that Arkansas Democrat Governor, Mike Beebe is unlikely to seek a $3.8 million grant to research how to establish a health insurance exchange in Arkansas.

According to National Council of State Legislators, “In response to the federal health reform law, now known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA),…some members of at least 45 state legislatures have proposed legislation to limit, alter or oppose selected state or federal actions.”

As of Sep 04 2011, only sixteen states and Washington D.C. have accepted federal funds thus far, to establish health care exchanges according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

As far as taxpayers…

According to Cato Institute health care policy expert Michael Cannon testified before the Missouri Senate’s Interim Committee on Health Insurance Exchanges on why that state should not create an Obamacare exchange…”to create an exchange is to create a taxpayer-funded lobbying group dedicated to fighting repeal. An exchange’s employees would owe their power and their paychecks to this law. Naturally, they would aid the fight to preserve the law.

Health policy expert John Graham of the Pacific Research Institute wrote on Sept 22, 2011 “State politicians are no longer fooled by the argument that if they do no collaborate to establish state-based exchanges, the federal government will enter their state and do it for them. Recent close reading of the law has debunked this notion. As written, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) has (at least) two clauses that will prevent this from happening …The likelihood of exchanges being up and running by January 2014 is vanishingly close to zero. Indeed, they may not exist at all except in very few states — whether or not President Obama wins re-election.”

The Health Care Exchange IS already taken over by the Feds
1. The federal government controls exchanges.
2. The federal government controls the doctors and other providers that are allowed to participate in an exchange-offered plan.
[States] will surrender [their] 10th amendment sovereignty by establishing an exchange According to Jack McHugh Mackinaw Policy Center.

Senator “CyberStalker” aka Rick Jones

I believe constituents and citizens need to be aware of any inappropriate conduct of their elected officials. My intent is not to engage in some silly tit-for-tat feud However, Michigan citizens have a right to expect that their Senators conduct themselves in a manner befitting their office.

Rick Jones is at it again. Somebody needs to put his computer in a lock box
Unbelievably, I received this Facebook e-mail message (below) from the Senator
Evidently Rick Jones has never heard of a “Screenshot”

Rick Jones took his his computer and e-mailed me on Facebook because he was feeling the displeasure from his constituents (fortunately I am not one) and others from a post I did HERE about the passing of SB 693(setting up an Obama Care Insurance Exchange in Michigan) and those who voted “Yes.” including Jones. I also made note of his now infamous comment made on the Senate floor that he had to “plug his nose and vote for the bill”

Sending a harassing and bullying e-mail is disgraceful behavior from a Senator and violates CHAPTER I – SECTION 3 LEGISLATIVE CONDUCT AND ETHICS

This incident is particularly disconcerting to women or anyone who has ever been the victim of harassment.

In addtion, the fact that he initiated contact with me, several times and then continued, escalating to harassing, and factious insults could rise to the level of cyberstalking. Considering that Rick Jones was a sheriff before starting a new career in politics makes his behavior even more shocking. His constituents and Michigan deserve better.
