How to Become an Effective Activist – What You Need to Know to Combat the implementation of a MI Health Care Exchange (Obama Care)

Dear Fellow Michigander,

We took a necessary short hiatus to step back and analyze our methodology of effectiveness. We do NOT want to be the definition of this...”Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results... But THIS instead…Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex… It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.” Albert Einstein

Therefore, we are moving in the direction of “Focused Activism” and encourage you to do the same.

Most of us can remember the famous I Love Lucy episode where Lucy hawks a vitamin elixir. Lucy asks,”Are you tired, run down, listless? Do you poop out at Parties? I have the same question, Are you tired, run down and listless from a lot of activity that seems to yield little results? Do you poop out at yet another Tea Party/Political Meeting?

Unlike Lucy’s solution,Vitameatavegamin is not the answer. However you can choose the “elixir of Focused Activism”.

No one can do it all, fight all the battles that are thrown at us deliberately, to cause us to feel overwhelmed and become unfocused. But we can focus on one battle at a time, take the most effective measures and begin to see real progress for our time and energy.

I want to extend an invitation to Focus your Activism, your valuable time on

One fight, One Bill SB 693

SB 693 in a nutshell is the implementation of Obama Care in Michigan  (Affordable Care Act) via the Health Insurance Exchange called,” Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN)

The “Governerd” and a whole host of Liberal/Progressive organizations and Unions such as AARP, AFSCME Council 25, SEIU Health Care, and We Are The People think that Michigan should rush the implementation of a Obama Care Health Care Exchange in Michigan. We DISAGREE.

So do…OTHER STATES including Florida, Gov. Rick Scott, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Texas Gov. Rick Perry flat-out said “no” to creating exchanges. In addition, in August Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback ordered that $32 million in PPACA exchange grants be returned, and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin returned $55 million in April.  (Fed money for implementation)

How Can You Be Effective in Stopping SB 693?

Almost all Bills go through a Committee hearing. A bill can “die in Committee” as the members of the Committee on whether to pass the bill for a vote or not.

Having a large group of people attend a Committee Meeting has a profound affect on the progress of a bill reaching a legislative vote. Attendance at a Committee Meeting is more effective than large rallies. Most groups never achieve a “tipping point” of attendance to influence Committee voting. Those that do create the buzz that puts the members of the Committee, those testifying and the press on notice, that this is no ordinary meeting. YOUR voice is heard where it can count!

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO TESTIFY, JUST SHOW UP! Fill out a card with your opinion that is entered into record.

SB 693 will go before the Senate Health Policy Committee

We tried to make the last meeting but by the time we found the location it was too late to go in the building. Has more to do with getting older than it does your directions. We think we can sort it out better this time. So put both of us two down. Thanks. John and Ruthie Buckwalter
