“Collecting more taxes than is absolutely necessary is legalized robbery.”- Calvin Coolidge
“I go on the principle that a public debt is a public curse, and in a Republican Government a greater curse than any other” – James Madison
First off we need to remember that Prop 1 is tied to a whole bunch of bills so when we vote on Prop 1 on May 5th we vote to institute these bills.
One of these bills Senate bill 847 was a compromise with Democrats/Liberals to reinstate the Earned Income Credit back to 20%.
Senate Bill 847 would amend the Income Tax Act to increase the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) from 6% to 20% of the credit allowed under Section 32 of the federal Internal Revenue Code, beginning with the 2016 tax year.
I spoke with a CPA and income tax preparer and I learned this;
The Earned Income Credit is one of the highest areas of fraud as people who would not otherwise qualify lie about their income to receive it.
It is basically a “open pocket book” to taxpayer money as most who qualify probably qualify for other federal, state and local programs. So the end result is usually people who take the Earned Income Credit get back more than they put in, which means the rest of us pay for them.
Additionally, the 20% will not make up for the increased sales tax.
It’s a wash but Democrats/Liberals can use it to promote the tired old mantra “we are for the little people” propaganda and…
But wait! There’s more
“A hearing on immigration revealed an alarming consequence of President Obama’s executive amnesty—that illegal immigrants with deferred status may be able to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Moreover, this person, who is here in the U.S. unlawfully, could be able to file an amended tax return for up to the last three tax years, possibly receiving upwards of $24,000 in tax credits.” From ‘Amnesty Bonuses’ in Tax Code: Illegal Immigrants to Receive Earned Income Tax Credit
Actually, this is the REAL reason Democrats/Liberals love it! And Snyder and Co played right along to squeeze more money out of you, the taxpayer when it WAS NOT NEEDED to fix the roads.
What IS needed is less government. Less government needs less revenue!
