“The simplification of anything is always sensational.”
“There is only one thing that stands in our midst, attenuated and threatened, but enthroned in some power like a ghost of the Middle Ages: the Trade Unions.”

G. K. Chesterton Quotes
Allow me to explain:
1. Almost 400,000 signatures to repeal prevailing wage have been submitted to Michigan’s elections bureau.
The archaic law requires bidders for state, local and school construction contracts to pay union-scale wages. It also requires these companies to abide by countless, complex requirements that are far to often accompanied by elaborate scheming and intrigue, especially for the gaining of political power or favor.
3. IF it does, the measure bypasses Gov. Rick Snyder’s signature and automatically becomes law.
Stretch Taxpayer Dollars and Promote Equality in Government: Repeal the Prevailing Wage F. Vincent Vernuccio director of labor policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy
WHY WOULD GOV. SNYDER WANT TO VETO ANY REPEAL of a PREVAILING WAGE BILL?
1. The Governor needs Democrat votes in the House to pass his road taxes
2. The Democrats wouldn’t to anything WITHOUT getting something in return. Yes you guessed it!
The “something” is to block the repeal of prevailing wage (veto) in exchange for passing the road tax (and who knows what else?)
BIG money Republicans donors want to protect Gov. Snyder simply because he has an “R “by his name. Protect the brand for their future plans or so they think.
WITH Legislative approval of the petition language, Snyder (and the minority Democrat deal) are bypassed and bingo it becomes law!
WHEN IS A ROAD TAX NOT A ROAD TAX??
“A citizen can hardly distinguish between a tax and a fine, except that the fine is generally much lighter.” – ILN, 5/25/31 -G. K. Chesterton
1. When the taxes, otherwise known as YOUR money are spend on other things besides roads
According to the The Detroit Free Press article,“Michigan Senate passes increase in gas tax”
“The House plan raised $700 million. when the bill when to the Senate, the amount went to $822 million ( via taxes.) That is an increase of $122 million The revenues raised in the third year of the increase will go into a “lock box” that won’t be distributed. And what is happening to extra revenue raised in the first two years??
Can you say, “Gov. Snyder’s Medicaid Expansion”
According to a Detroit Free Press opinion article (ignore the Liberal hand wringing pleas to bail out the Expansion)
“Because the tax Michigan enacted to fund its share of the state Medicaid program doesn’t produce enough money, we’re headed toward a funding shortfall...”
“If the Legislature doesn’t extend, and increase, a tax on insurers and some claims administrators, (which is passed on to you the clients.) the state won’t be able to fund its current Medicaid programs. In 2017, the state’s costs will go up, something lawmakers (those who voted for the Expansion) have known for years and have they had sufficient time to craft a plan” (I love how they phase tax increases as “craft a plan” terminology matters.) to cover the cost increase.
FIXING OUR ROADS WITHOUT RAISING OUR TAXES
Now we know there are other plans to fix roads WITHOUT raiding the taxpayers pocketbooks again.
In our April 8th article we mentioned several plans to fix roads without raising your taxes, including Senator Colbeck. He has been discussing his plan since last year. And has been continuously ignored and we know why, right?
In fact Senator Colbeck even issued a challenge to “his colleagues in the Senate, his colleagues in the House and Gov. Snyder to dispense with politics-as-usual and debate road funding in an open and public manner.” SEE IT ON YOUTUBE HERE
How YOU Can Help
2. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper
Make it known you are for creating Michigan jobs and urge your legislator to vote to approve the petition language to repeal prevailing wage
You may also want to remind your House Rep that the vote was 81% to 19% for NO New Taxes. You are sick of the raiding of your pocket book as the default solution. Challenge YOUR Rep or Senate to debate Senate Colbeck!
Since you did NOT want it, you do not want to pay for ANY fund shortage for the Medicaid Expansion, EVER!
Start SERIOUSLY looking at plans that do NOT raise taxes to fix our roads!
