Michigan News You Want to Know

Michigan Citizens,

Houston we have a problem. Obama holdovers, Never Trumpers and deep state operatives are obstructing President Trump’s agenda and policy. And this time Michigan’s Rep. Kelly was a victim of that obstructionism after going through a grueling 8 month process.

Michigan Rep. Tim Kelly out of running for federal post over offensive blog posts

“Look, I’m a conservative Republican with opinions,” Kelly said in an interview with the Free Press. “Sometimes they don’t match those of the left.” Kelly also said,”

Drain the SwampOh its not just the Left. In another interview.…Kelly blamed the “deep state” and Trump haters for digging up and leaking the questionable blog posts to sabotage his nomination.

“If people read the [blog] posts, people will think … this guy got a bad deal,” Kelly said. “I’m appalled that people would take this out of context. … I wrote this blog several years ago. Someone from inside leaked this. I wasn’t ever hiding it. I was forthcoming with it from the get-go.”

More Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Seriously? Are the other contenders in the race that afraid of Colbeck? Apparently gubernatorial candidate Bill Schuette spoke and was even introduced as “the next Michigan governor”. My sources tell me it was all orchestrated by SOS candidate Stan Grot in cahoots with Stu Sandler who is working on the Schuette campaign. Shameful.

Gerrymandering Petition

Lets be clear I am opposed to the practice of gerrymandering.

The definition of a gerrymander is a changing of voting districts to give one party an advantage or disadvantage a group. An example of a gerrymander is a creation of a smaller voting district to take away votes from a particular candidate.

And Michigan according to this Detroit News article is one of the worst practitioners…”An analysis pinpointing Michigan as one of the most gerrymandered states in the nation is providing new fuel for groups looking to challenge political boundaries in court or change the process at the ballot box.”

However, this current petition that proposes amending our state Constitution isn’t a non-partisan effort to stop gerrymandering, from all accounts it is is an attempt by Liberals to regain what they have lost with an Republican majority.

There are some parts of the seven page petition to amend our state Constitution changes that are laudable. However, the newly created Commission is a permanent part of the legislative branch and Commissioners are picked “at random” by Secretary of States office. I don’t see anything about overseeing this process to make sure its “at random”

Also…..

I can’t imagine that either Party leader would not strike anyone “randomly” selected that did not reflect their Parties interest

And we always need to proactively research anything or anyone whose goal is to amend our state Constitution

Interesting enough….

Michigan Democrats largely controlled the maps in the 1960s and 1970s because they had majorities on courts that ultimately drew them after legal challenges. Courts again decided the maps in the 1980s and 1990s, relying on principles developed by state elections staffer Bernie Apol.

Those standards were codified into law in the 1990s under legislation sponsored by then-state Sen. Bill Schuette, a Midland Republican who is now attorney general and considering a run for governor.

Asked if Schuette still believes the legislation is capable of combating gerrymandering, his office declined comment, citing the possibility of future litigation over Michigan redistricting.

Gerrymandering needs to be addressed and I would like to see it the near future but instead of Party hacks from either side a true non-partisan grassroots effort to stop the practice in Michigan.

However, I have to say no to this particular effort

Judicial appointments matter….Greatly

The total number of Obama Article III judgeship nominees to be confirmed by the United States Senate is 329, including two justices to the Supreme Court of the United States, 55 judges to the United States Courts of Appeals, 268 judges to the United States district courts, and four judges to the United States Court of …

For instance I am currently in Nevada and the Clive Bundy Trial is in the news as the case is finally going to trial.

The four defendants in the trial have been in custody for more than 22 months since being arrested in January of 2016 and denied bail by the Obama appointed Federal Judge.

And Judge Gloria Navarro BARRED the defense from referencing ANY Constitutional rights and to freely assemble and bear arms! Unbelievable and outrageous from a Federal Court Judge!

Michigan’s no-fault auto insurance reform defeated in House of Representatives

Really? Is there any satisfactory reason why Republicans would vote against reforming the highest insurance rates in the country?

Scoreboard for GOPBy 1:30 a.m. Thursday, 12 Republicans joined all but one Democrat in voting against the cut, defeating it by a 52-55

Republicans voting against the bill were: Reps. Julie Calley, of Portland, Larry Inman, of Williamsburg, Chris Affendoulis, of Grand Rapids Township, Daniela Garcia, of Holland, McCready, of Birmingham, Dave Pagel, of Berrien Springs, Brett Roberts, of Eaton Township, Dave Maturen, of Vicksburg, Jim Lilly, of Park Township, Jason Sheppard, of Temperance, Kathy Crawford, of Novi, and Scott VanSingel, of GrandRapids, Democrat Scott Dianda, of Calumet, was the lone Democrat to vote for the cut.

GOP plan to cut state income tax fails in Michigan House

AND Is there any satisfactory reason why Republicans would vote against cutting income tax except they don’t want to stop the spending? And therefor the “lack of a plan to replace the money”

“The new version of the bill would reduce the income tax to 4.15%, beginning on Jan. 1, 2018, then to 4.05% in 2019, 3.95% in 2020 and 3.9% in 2021. The lost revenue in the first year, which comes three months into the fiscal year, would be $195 million; in the second year, it would be $463 million; in the third year, it would be $780 million, and by the fourth year, it would cumulatively translate into $1.1 billion less in state revenue.

It was that figure – and the lack of a plan to replace the money – that prompted Gov. Rick Snyder to say he was still opposed to the bill because he had “a billion dollars worth of concerns.”

Since 2010, Michigan’s state budget increased by nearly $6 billion – more than twice the rate of inflation. The growth is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. The tax cut was projected to cut $195 million from this increasing budget in year one and about $800 million per year over the next few years. Michigan’s budget today is at an all-time high.

Most of These Republicans Ran On Low Taxes; But All Voted to Keep Them High

For some, campaign trail rhetoric doesn’t match the voting record
