A Bridge Too Far…Snyder Back Dooring

“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it whether it exists or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedy”.  ~Ernest Benn

MIRS is reporting that Gov. Snyder is looking elsewhere besides the Legislature and a bill  to try and get his pet project DRIC built. Word is that the Snyder administration is looking at several “back door” options….one is to rewrite State Trunkline Act (Public Act 51 under ) giving more authority to MDOT to cut a deal with Canada

The Legislature does appropriate state money, however spokesperson from MDOT would circumvent that also by using ONLY Federal money

Can some tell me why this bridge is so critical to built now, please? Evidently Gov. Snyder sees the bridge  as some kind of monument to his legacy. If private enterprise wants to built the Bridge at no cost to taxpayer and without sticking Michigan’s hand in the debt ridden, strings attached Federal government cookie jar then I say…let Capitalism work!!

We don’t State or Federal Government involment in building the bridge, there is an indivual willing to build the bridge, let him build it. MDOT is already corrupt enough they will certainly stick ther nose in no matter who builds the bridge and drive up cost.

    Their own studies have shown:.
    1. The bridge is not needed for traffic. The delays are customs. That can be done at either location except one of them already has a bridge that more than supports the traffic without a new span..
    2. Traffic has been steady, not increasing over the years, and for the past few years it has been down because of the economy.
    3. The organization tasked to calculate the financial cost vs. benefit concluded they could come up with no realistic scenario where the cost of the bridge could ever be justified.

There was no problem building the bridge until these studies were done and the facts came out. When the great divide occurred is when some wanted to build the bridge anyway. Obamanomics spends a dollar to get 50 cents back. That’s how the US ended up with a 15 trillion dollar debt. We need to spend a dollar to get a a dollar fifty back in growth and revenue. Remember the studies were analyzed twice and they could not come up with a realistic scenario where building the new bridge could make economic sense. Whether MDOT uses federal or state money, the state taxpayers are paying for it. The only difference is if they are spending money with an ROI or spending it where there is no ROI.

BINGO! I wish more Michiganders and American understood that…government has no money…it either takes it from us in the form of taxes or prints it mostly causing inflation

[...] A Bridge Too Far – Snyder Back Dooring MIRS is reporting that the Snyder administration is looking at several “back door” options, one is to rewrite State Trunkline Act (Public Act 51) giving more authority to MDOT to cut a deal with Canada. Wait a minute, isn’t (Public Act 51) the excuse given as to why are roads cannot be fixed because that Act ties the legislature’s hands? Several times in recent past that’s just the excuse that Senator Randy Richardville has been quoted in the newspapers, candidate forums, and I believe the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce was told this in a speech! If private enterprise want to built the Bridge at no cost to taxpayer and without sticking Michigan’s hand in the debt ridden, springs attached Federal government cookie jar that I say let Capitalism work!! http://grassrootsmichigan.com/?p=852 [...]
